Austria Plus

The Austria Plus project is dedicated to forest conservation and conversion in Austria. In cooperation with the non-profit foundation Bergwaldprojekt, we would like to offer our customers the opportunity to get involved not only internationally, but also regionally.

First supported project: Montafon in Vorarlberg The first project in the Austria Plus series is the Montafon project in Vorarlberg. The mountain forest project has been operating in the Montafon forest stands since 1994. In the first years, the mountain forest project worked in the forests above Vandans in Rellstal and in St. Gallenkirch, from 1997 to 2010 in Silbertal and from 2011 again in Rellstal.

Since 2014, the mountain forest project has once again been active in Silbertal. The main work includes path maintenance and new construction, forced use, clearing, planting, individual protection and keeping the pasture areas free. With Österreich Plus, you support a specific regional project in the Montafon, as 5 euros from every Österreich Plus climate protection combi-certificate go directly to the Bergwaldprojekt foundation.

Climate change has long since reached Austria. Storm warnings are increasing, while precipitation is falling by up to 25% and the average annual temperature is rising by 0.5°C. Heavy rainfall and extreme storms will become more frequent and the landscape will change profoundly.

Climate change has already thrown forests out of balance:
- Fungal diseases and insect infestations: these characterize the forest ecosystem.
- Droughts and heat waves: They are sparking more and more forest fires
- Species poverty: Climate-induced species poverty is progressing massively

The Austrian forest is no longer as healthy and robust as it was thought to be. They face the challenge of adapting to climate change. We must help it to help itself.

The "Combi-Certificate AustriaPlus" is your way of combining global climate protection and local environmental initiatives. We ensure that your CO2 offsetting effectively supports international projects that comply with strict VCS or Gold Standard guidelines. But that's not all: every tonne of CO2 offset also contributes to forest ecology projects in Austria. Your investment is fairly distributed to the regions you support. With every certificate you purchase, you also receive detailed information on the German forest projects supported - a valuable tool for your climate communication.
