PROJECT Togo integrates all dimensions of sustainability - people and communities, infrastructure and ecosystems - in addition to natural reforestation, achieving strong sustainability.
From beekeeping successes to species-appropriate animal husbandry: discover how PROJECT TOGO is transforming agricultural livelihoods.
Bees: A humming source of income In Togo, beehives are a humming source of income for families. A hive made of local tropical wood can hold up to 40,000 bees, which can produce up to 7 kg of honey in the first year, increasing to up to 15 kg the following year. Five such hives can be enough to feed a family and send their children to school. Our beekeeping school paves the way for aspiring beekeepers to learn everything from hive construction to honey harvesting, supported by in-depth knowledge of African wild bees. After an intensive year-long course, culminating in an exam and certificate, we help graduates set up their own apiaries for independence and advancement.
Rabbit Breeding: Empowering Women in Rural Togo Women in Togo, often trapped in traditional roles, find an opportunity for financial independence in rabbit breeding. This project offers women the opportunity to earn an income in addition to their household work by managing the construction of the hutches and the breeding themselves.
Sheep as Fire Prevention PROJECT TOGO is taking an innovative approach to the frequent forest fires: By raising sheep for local meat needs, we are preventing fires on fallow land. We are also improving animal welfare through responsible sheep farming and demonstrating how sustainable agriculture can work on a small scale.

Empowerment in Togo:Focus on women's education and rights
PROJECT TOGO sets new standards for equality and education in Togo.
In Togo, women are the pillars of society - they take care of the household, look after the children and work in the fields, but they are often overshadowed by men. In our project villages, many women are excluded from education, cannot read or write or do not speak the official language, French. PROJECT TOGO is committed to strengthening their independence and self-determination.
Training centre: education as the key to equality With our first nationwide women's training centre in Togo, we are creating a space for workshops, education and exchange in order to promote women's equality and social participation.
Our first literacy classes for women have started. It is not just about reading and writing, but also about developing fine motor skills and economic skills, such as the profitable marketing of cooperative products, including palm oil and soap production.
Strong together: the cooperative is flourishingThe new life and productivity of the women's cooperative in Kotokopé is impressive. With a production house equipped with efficient ovens and a modern palm oil press, the results of their joint efforts are tangible. Working together not only strengthens economic power, but also a sense of community - a model for sustainable development.

Togo's transformation: Smoke-free cookstoves improve health and the environment
Less smoke, more air: efficient cooking ovens from natureOffice are revolutionising cooking in Togo.
Smoke pollution in huts and houses poses a serious health risk in Togo. In the absence of an electricity grid or clean energy sources, cooking on wood fires and the use of paraffin lamps is widespread, which leads to considerable smoke development. One innovation in this area is the energy-efficient cooking stoves from Die Ofenmacher e.V., which significantly reduce the amount of firewood required and are virtually smoke-free - thanks to a classic stove pipe that safely removes the smoke.
Not only are we committed to providing these advanced cookstoves, but we also support the training of local stove builders. This comprehensive training enables them to pass on the knowledge and accelerate the spread of the stoves across the country. A single stove can save up to 2.5 tonnes of CO2 per year, which supports forest conservation and prevents excessive deforestation.
