CO2 offsetting helps to reduce emissions

10/21/24Reading time:

After numerous critics have vehemently attacked companies that see carbon credits as just one part of their climate strategy, this report reveals a different reality and highlights the benefits for companies when they seriously address the impact of their corporate emissions.

The Ecosystem Marketplace Report 2023 "All in on Climate: The Role of Carbon Credits in Corporate Climate Strategies," analyzed data from companies provided through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP Worldwide) and provides exciting results for those active in the voluntary carbon offset market.

The study compares companies that voluntarily purchase CO₂ certificates with those that either do not use offsetting or limit themselves to compliance credits, with the following conclusion: companies that voluntarily offset CO₂ emissions through climate protection projects are more active in climate protection, more transparent in their climate reporting and more successful in reducing their CO₂ emissions. Accusations of greenwashing by companies that purchase climate certificates are refuted by the evaluation.
