Our label is changing – while staying true to itself
Sometimes, it is the small signs that carry real meaning. On products, websites or in reports, they communicate specific messages to the outside world. Our natureOffice label is one of them. Many of our customers have used it for years to make emission data transparently visible. In the meantime, however, the framework for sustainability communication has evolved. That is why we have revised our label – not to invent something entirely new, but to continue the proven system in a clearer and simpler way.
Why we have further developed our label
In recent years, not only has the practice of CO₂ accounting evolved – the rules governing sustainability communication in Europe have also become more precise.
With new European requirements such as the EmpCo Directive (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition), greater attention is being paid to how environmental and sustainability claims are presented. The aim of these rules is to make information clearer and easier for consumers to understand.
Many companies are therefore currently reviewing how they communicate around CO₂ emissions, climate action and sustainability commitments.
Against this background, we have also further developed our natureOffice label.
What is changing in concrete terms
With the new version, we are making its use much simpler.
In future, there will be one unified label that can be used for both products and companies. Previous variants – such as individual or collective logos – will be discontinued.
The label now includes a unique ID and a QR code. Both lead directly to a digital entry in the Corporate Contribution Record. There, the underlying information is documented in a structured format.
The label itself does not constitute an evaluation. It serves as an access point to the stored information.
What remains the same
The basic approach remains unchanged:
company information and emission data should be documented transparently and made accessible in a traceable way.
Our methodology for determining emission data, as well as the digital documentation of the underlying information, will remain in place.
Transition to the new label
The previous logos will remain available in our systems until 31 March.
For new publications, however, we already recommend using the new label. Collective logos and older label variants should no longer be used going forward and should be replaced step by step with the new label.
What comes next
In the coming weeks, we will provide further information, including:
- a logo guideline for using the label
- information on the Corporate Contribution Network
- details on the further development of tracking into the Corporate Contribution Record
The objective remains unchanged:
company information and emission data should be clearly documented, transparently presented and made accessible in a traceable way.
Implementing sustainability communication, climate claims and EU rules in a clear and understandable way
With new European regulations such as the EmpCo Directive (Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition), the requirements for environmental and sustainability claims are becoming much more precise. Companies increasingly need to pay attention to how information on CO₂ emissions, climate measures or sustainability commitments is presented. At the centre of this development is the traceability of climate claims – in other words, the question of what information actually underpins a given claim.
This is exactly where the natureOffice labelling system comes in. Through a unique ID and a QR code, the label links to a digital entry in the Corporate Contribution Record. There, company information provided – such as emission data, climate measures or project investments – is documented in a structured format. The label itself does not constitute an evaluation; rather, it serves as a gateway to traceable information and helps companies present sustainability information transparently.
