VCS1792 describes a bundled 500 MW photovoltaic project in Andhra Pradesh. This page separates the technical project scope, the recorded grid feed-in, the modelled emission reduction, and the subsequent allocation of VCUs.

WHY THE BASELINE MATTERS

The modules supply electricity. The CO₂e figure comes from the comparison.

The modules supply electricity. The CO₂e figure comes from the comparison.

The electricity meter records megawatt hours. It does not measure avoided tonnes of CO₂.

The electricity meter records megawatt hours. It does not measure avoided tonnes of CO₂.

For the project balance, the documented grid feed-in is linked with a methodologically determined emission factor of the connected electricity system. Only this comparison yields a calculated emission reduction for a defined monitoring period.

The technology generates electricity. The method answers which emissions are associated with this electricity.

Why two expected values appear: The overview field of the current Verra entry states 996,010 t CO₂e per year. The description of the same entry states around 887,800 t CO₂e per year at 919,800 MWh. The values are presented separately; for a specific monitoring period, the monitoring and verification reports published there are authoritative.

Why estimation, issuance and retirement are not the same: Annual values are project expectations. Issued VCUs are based on verified monitoring periods. Active and retired units describe registry status – they do not yet imply a specific corporate allocation.

02 · WHAT THE PROJECT PROVIDES FOR

Generate, feed in and traceably record solar power

For the carbon footprint, it is not just the installed capacity that counts. What matters is the amount of electricity generated within a specified period and supplied to the defined grid.

01

Operate 500 MW of photovoltaics

According to the register, the project network comprises 500 MW in Andhra Pradesh. Assessment documents describe ten units, each with 50 MW.

02

Feed electricity into the grid

The electricity generated is fed into the Indian power grid. It does not follow that specific households, products or companies are supplied directly.

03

Document creation

Measurement data on grid feed-in, calculation documentation and independent audits form the basis for a potential issuance of VCUs.

03 · HOW A UNIT IS CREATED

Grid feed-in is converted into a calculated emission reduction.

Grid feed-in is converted into a calculated emission reduction.

ACM0002 Version 18.1 establishes the methodological framework for grid-connected electricity generation from renewable sources.

01

Set baseline

The reference scenario describes how the corresponding amount of electricity would have been provided in the connected electricity system without the project.

02

Measure electricity quantity

The electricity actually generated and fed in at the defined metering points is documented for the monitoring period.

03

Apply emission factor

The eligible amount of electricity is linked to the methodologically determined emission factor of the electricity system. Relevant project and leakage emissions are taken into account.

04

Verify and issue

Following independent auditing, VCUs with vintage and serial numbers can be issued in the registry. A subsequent retirement documents their specific use.

04 · OTHER PROJECT REFERENCES

What can be described in addition to the VCU calculation

The VCS project framework quantifies greenhouse gas emissions. Energy, infrastructure, employment or environmental references require their own data and evidence; they do not follow automatically from an issued VCU.

ENERGY SYSTEM

Electricity from photovoltaics

The project feeds solar power into the connected grid. The fossil fuel generation that this replaces in the baseline scenario is methodically modelled using a baseline and an emission factor.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Large-scale generation plant

500 MW of installed capacity is a technical project scale. This figure is neither an avoided amount of emissions nor proof of the use of electricity by specific consumers.

EMPLOYMENT

Construction, operation and maintenance

Project documentation may describe employment and qualification references. Statements regarding the number, duration, or quality of jobs must be proven separately from the emission calculation.

ENVIRONMENT

No combustion during plant operation

Photovoltaics do not require any fuel during operation. A complete environmental assessment would nevertheless have to include manufacturing, land use, infrastructure and end-of-life.

FOR COMMUNICATION

A link to renewable energy or the Sustainable Development Goals is not a comprehensive sustainability credential. What matters is which specific statement is supported by which indicator, which source, and over which time period.

05 · FOR SUPPORTING COMPANIES

Issued VCUs do not yet constitute an allocation to a company.

The registry shows 6,052,086 issued and 4,573,315 retired VCUs. Concrete support only becomes traceable through the unambiguous retirement for a beneficiary.

The profile explains the project. A company's actual climate contribution is only proven by the retirement and allocation certificate.

06 · CLASSIFICATION AND COMMUNICATION

What the support means – and what it doesn't

A voluntary climate contribution is presented separately from reductions within one's own value chain.

CAN BE DOCUMENTED

IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGNED

a registered photovoltaic project in Andhra Pradesh

the direct supply of specific households, products or companies

an emission reduction calculated and verified in accordance with ACM0002

a direct measurement of avoided CO₂ emissions at the solar panel

two annual expected values shown in the register with different contexts

that a single rounded number describes all project periods

a VCS registry entry with issued VCUs

automatically an Article 6 authorisation, a CCP label or an external rating

Solar power without fuel combustion in plant operation

a complete life cycle assessment including manufacturing, land use and end of life

the retirement of specific VCUs for a beneficiary

a reduction of own emissions, climate neutrality, or a green product label

It is not the solar module that occupies the climate protection unit, but the verified period, the issued VCU and its unique assignment.

07 · SOURCES AND RELEVANCE

The basis openly accessible

Status and units are subject to change. The current register entry and the project and audit documents published therein remain authoritative.
