WHY THE NETWORK REFERENCE MATTERS

Solar power is measurable. What it replaces in the grid remains a methodological calculation.

The project plants feed electricity into the Indian grid. For the climate balance, the determined net electricity volume is linked with a methodologically determined emission factor of the relevant power system.

An issued unit therefore does not confirm that a specific coal-fired power plant has been physically decommissioned. It documents a difference between the project and reference scenarios, calculated according to the applied methods and verified for a defined period.

Regarding the units: the values visible in the registry for active, retired and cancelled VCUs do not add up to the total number of issued VCUs stated there. The public overview does not explain this discrepancy. For a concrete allocation, the vintage, serial numbers and current status of the respective units are therefore decisive.

02 · WHAT "BUNDLED PROJECT" MEANS

Multiple systems are brought together under a common project framework

The register description names several project sponsors and special purpose vehicles. The plants are located in various federal states, but feed solar power into public grids within the registered project framework.

For the purpose of balancing, the net electricity volume of the included systems determined according to the project rules is documented in the respective monitoring periods.

Verified reductions are allocated to the overall registered project. For individual VCUs, the vintage, monitoring period, and serial numbers remain decisive.

03 · HOW A UNIT IS CREATED

A calculated reduction is derived from the generated electricity and the grid reference.

ACM0002 and AMS-I.D. are shown in the register. Both relate to grid-connected electricity generation from renewable sources; their project-specific application in the respective documents remains decisive.

Determine net electricity volume

The electricity delivered to the grid according to the project rules is recorded for the monitoring period.

Calculate network reference

A methodologically determined emission factor describes which emissions would be associated with the corresponding quantity of electricity in the reference system.

Consider project emissions

Insofar as relevant to the methodology and project design, emissions attributable to the project are deducted from the calculated baseline emissions.

Verify and issue

Following monitoring and independent verification, VCUs can be issued in the registry for the confirmed net reduction.

04 · ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY

No combustion during electricity generation does not mean: without resources and impacts.

Photovoltaics provide electricity without the ongoing use of fuel at the plant site. Nevertheless, the manufacture, construction, land use, grid integration, and subsequent treatment of the components remain distinct areas of consideration.

During operation, photovoltaic modules generate electricity without burning coal, gas, or other fuels. The physical displacement of a specific power plant cannot be inferred from this.

Location and land use

Ground-mounted solar systems occupy land and can affect soil, vegetation, or existing land uses. The type and extent of these impacts must be considered separately for each individual system.

MATERIALS

Technology lifecycle

Modules, inverters, substructures, cabling and construction work require materials and energy. Maintenance, replacement and subsequent recycling are also part of the overall consideration.

NETWORK

Variable feed-in

Electricity generation depends on solar radiation. A contribution to the generation mix therefore does not automatically guarantee security of supply or continuously available capacity.

THEMATIC SDG RELEVANCE

Clear links exist with SDG 7 'Affordable and Clean Energy' and SDG 13 'Climate Action'. Further economic or social impacts must be proven on the basis of the project documentation; the SDG assignment is not a seal of quality.
