02 · WHAT THE PROGRAMME ENVISAGES
Two everyday technologies, one common accounting framework
According to the registry description, the programme aims to reach households, communities and institutions with improved cookstoves and low-emission water treatment solutions.

Cook more efficiently
Improved cookstoves are intended to require less non-renewable biomass compared to defined baseline technologies. Which savings are eligible depends on technology, usage, and methodological parameters.

Treat water
Water treatment technologies are intended to fully or partially replace the boiling of water. The climate impact is determined by the modelled avoided use of fuel.

Prove usage
Distributed devices alone do not result in emission reductions. Decisive factors include actual use, technical performance, the reference scenario, and quality-assured monitoring data.

It is calculated within the respective methodology from the baseline, usage, fuel data and other specified parameters.

Define initial situation
For cooking and water purification, it is determined which technology and fuel consumption are assumed in the absence of a programme.

Track technologies and usage
Device types, distribution, functionality, and actual use are incorporated into the database in accordance with the respective monitoring specifications.

Model mitigation
The methodology calculates the difference between the baseline and the project scenario. Among other things, non-renewable biomass fraction, emission factors, and uncertainties are taken into account.

Verify and issue
Only after monitoring, independent verification, and approval can units be issued in the registry for a specific period. No issuances are currently visible for this programme.
04 · INTENDED AND POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
What the approach can enable – without already constituting proof of it
More efficient cooking and safe water purification can have additional social and environmental benefits. However, the visible register level does not quantify these results.
WATER
Water without additional boiling
Suitable treatment technologies can make water usable without using fuel. Whether and to what extent this is achieved must be proven through usage and water quality.
INDOOR AIR
Less smoke as a possible result
More efficient or cleaner-burning cooking technologies can reduce smoke exposure. A concrete health impact cannot be automatically derived from this.
EVERYDAY LIFE
Time and costs
Lower fuel requirements can ease the burden on households in terms of time and finances. The level and distribution of this benefit depend on local prices, habits, and the use of technology.
RESOURCES
Less non-renewable biomass
Lower consumption can reduce the pressure on forest resources. This is not synonymous with a proven forest conservation or biodiversity outcome.
THEMATIC SDG RELEVANCE
Clear links exist with SDG 6 'Clean Water and Sanitation', SDG 7 'Affordable and Clean Energy' and SDG 13 'Climate Action'. This classification is not a seal of approval and, on its own, does not prove that the targets have been achieved.
