PROJECT PROFILE · CERTIFICATE-BASED CLIMATE PROTECTION
Afforestation in Uruguay
The Lumin/Eucapine project establishes managed forest plantations on previously extensively grazed land. This page documents the project activity, methodology, standard, and registry entry – and contextualises what supporting it does and does not mean.

WHY TRANSPARENCY MATTERS
The project addresses land use: managed forest plantations for long-lived wood products are established on previously extensively grazed areas. The CO₂ removals, calculated against the established baseline scenario, are monitored, independently verified, and registered in accordance with the rules of the Verified Carbon Standard.
A registry entry does not replace a declaration of performance. But it makes its basis verifiable.

02 · WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PROJECT
Extensive pastureland is converted into managed forest plantations
According to the project description, plantings will be established and managed for forestry on the included areas. The project is therefore an afforestation project – not flat-rate proof of the restoration of a natural forest.
01
Land use
The continuation of extensive grazing is used as a reference. The project activity establishes forest plantations on the included areas.
02
Management
The project documentation primarily describes eucalyptus and, additionally, pine species. The goal is the production of high-quality, durable wood products.
03
Monitoring
Stocks and relevant carbon pools are recorded through inventories and methodically defined parameters. The planted area is not the only factor that counts for the balance sheet.
03 · HOW A UNIT IS CREATED
It is calculated within a defined model consisting of a reference situation, project activity, monitored carbon stocks, and risks taken into account.
01
Define reference situation
The methodology determines how carbon stocks would have been expected to develop if extensive grazing had continued.
02
Record stock
Forest inventories and other monitoring data form the basis for estimating carbon storage in the pools considered.
03
Calculate net withdrawals
The calculated storage takes into account, among other things, baseline, project emissions, leakage and methodologically prescribed uncertainty deductions.
04
Check, buffer and register
Monitoring reports are verified. A portion is allocated to the AFOLU risk buffer; the remaining verified units can be issued in the registry.
04 · OTHER DESCRIBED POSTS
Consider climate impact and other project goals separately
The project documentation mentions other objectives and measures in addition to carbon storage. It does not automatically follow that every mentioned effect has been quantified in the same way or verified individually for each unit issued.
LAND USE
Establishment of forest stands
The project activity converts previously extensively grazed land into managed forest plantations. This is to be distinguished from natural forest protection and natural reforestation.
PRODUCTS
Long-lived wood use
The project description specifies high-quality, durable wood products as the goal. How long carbon remains stored in individual products is part of the methodological modelling.
NATURAL AREAS
Accompanying protective measures
Project documents describe areas with native vegetation and accompanying protection or restoration measures. The scope and results are to be assessed on a document-by-document basis.
REGION
Employment and local value creation
Forestry activities can support employment and skills development. This is not a blanket proof of a specific social impact per certificate.
CCB AND SDG REFERENCES
The project documentation classifies climate, community and biodiversity aspects. natureOffice does not use these classifications as a seal of approval for the project or as evidence of a comprehensive sustainability status.
05 · FOR SUPPORTING COMPANIES
Not just a crowd. A documented connection to the project.
This project profile describes the project. A separate allocation or retirement report indicates whether and to what extent units have been allocated to a specific climate contribution.
Name and Verra ID of the project
allocated quantity in t CO₂e
Vintage or monitoring period
Write-off date and register reference
Serial numbers or unique VCU references
Beneficiary or documented purpose
The value does not lie in a green predicate. It lies in clearly assigned and verifiably documented support.
06 · CLASSIFICATION AND COMMUNICATION
What the support means – and what it doesn't
A voluntary climate contribution is presented separately from emissions within one's own value chain.
IT DOCUMENTS
IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN
a contribution outside one's own value chain
a reduction in one's own emissions
the allocation of specific registered entities
Climate neutrality of a product or company
Project, Standard, Vintage and Quantity
a comprehensive sustainability assessment
verified withdrawals within the defined balancing framework
permanent storage without reversal or default risk
Risk management via the standard's AFOLU buffer
a guarantee for each individual stock for an unlimited period of time
a documented write-off or decommissioning
the admissibility of each advertising claim
A climate contribution should not sound bigger than can be documented.
07 · SOURCES AND RELEVANCE
