WHY THE TIMEFRAME MATTERS
The facility exists permanently. The result always belongs to a monitoring period.
An installed capacity describes the technical capability to generate electricity. It does not indicate how much electricity was fed into the grid in a given year, nor what amount of CO₂e was verified and issued for that period.
For VCS 10, in accordance with ACM0002, the documented grid feed-in is linked to a methodologically determined baseline scenario of the electricity system. This results in a calculated emission reduction for a defined period of time – not a direct measurement at the power plant.
The capacity describes the plant. The emission reduction results from documented grid feed-in, methodology, and verification.

The data pass for VCS 10
Project design, estimated annual volume, issued units and retirements serve different purposes. Therefore, they are not presented alongside one another here as interchangeable key figures.

Regarding the period and the figures: the currently visible registry entry states 31.12.2015 as the end of the crediting period. For a specific allocation or use, the vintage, serial number, unit status and proof of retirement must be verified individually.
02 · WHAT THE PROJECT PROVIDES FOR
Generate electricity, feed it into the grid and document the transfer point.
The system is visible. However, for the certificate logic, the measured net electricity quantity and the methodological baseline count – not the installed capacity alone.
01
Converting water into electricity
The plant uses the Rio Pelotas to generate electricity. The technical specification for capacity describes the potential output of the machinery, not the amount of electricity generated in a year.
02
Feed electricity into the grid
The physical electricity is fed into the Brazilian grid. It cannot be attributed to an individual company or a single product.
03
Check measured values and boundaries
Meter data, billing documents and the procedures established in the monitoring plan form the data chain for the respective monitoring period.
03 · HOW A UNIT IS CREATED
ACM0002 regulates the methodological comparison between the project electricity and the electricity that would have been generated in the grid without the project. The version and input parameters belong to the respective verification period.
01
Determine reference network
The baseline describes the emission intensity of the electricity generation assumed without the project. It is a methodological reference value and not a measurement at the river or the turbines.
02
Record net electricity
Generation, self-consumption and grid feeding are documented for a defined period in accordance with the monitoring plan.
03
Apply emission factor
The eligible electricity volume is linked to the net emission factor determined by the methodology; relevant project and, if applicable, leakage emissions are taken into account according to the methodology.
04
Verify and issue
Following independent verification, VCUs can be issued with vintages and serial numbers. A retirement only documents their actual use.
04 · SYSTEM CONTEXT AND BOUNDARY
Hydroelectric power, mains electricity, and project units are not the same.
The plant can be described technically. However, this does not imply either a general environmental assessment or a permanent promise of effectiveness for the project or the individual VCUs.
TECHNOLOGY
Three units, no annual forecast
BAESA lists three generator units of 230 MW each. This figure describes the installed capacity, but not a specific annual output, capacity utilization or quantity of VCUs.
POWER PLANT ENVIRONMENT
The attachment is not the certificate of proof
Electricity generation is the physical starting point. What matters for the unit is the documented monitoring period, methodology, and independent verification.
OTHER EFFECTS
No overall rating from the VCU status
A VCU status does not prove a comprehensive ecological or social assessment of the plant, its reservoir or its surroundings. Such statements require their own sources and reporting boundaries.
DELIMITATION
No statement about the supporting company
A specific retirement affects the VCUs identified there. It does not alter the CCF, the PCF, or the CO₂e profile of the supporting company.
CLASSIFICATION
A statement on the plant, unit, and support is not to be equated with a complete environmental or impact assessment.
05 · FOR SUPPORTING COMPANIES
Issued VCUs do not yet constitute an allocation.
Only the proof of cancellation connects specific units with a company and a documented purpose. In the case of a completed crediting period, the vintage, serial number and status of the unit must be individually traceable.
A reliable allocation comprises at least:
01
Project name and VCS-ID 10
02
specific quantity in t CO₂e
03
Vintage and monitoring period
04
Issue and decommissioning date
05
complete serial number range
06
Beneficiary and documented purpose of use
Specific VCUs must be individually verified with vintage, serial number, date of issuance, proof of retirement, beneficiary, and purpose of use.
06 · CLASSIFICATION AND COMMUNICATION
What can be documented – and what does not follow automatically.
A voluntary climate contribution is presented separately from emissions within one's own value chain.
CAN BE DOCUMENTED
is not automatically assigned
a hydroelectric power plant as a project reference and an installed technical capacity
a specific annual generation or utilisation
608,686 t CO₂e as the estimated average annual quantity in the registry
that this quantity is reached, verified or available each year
6,747,207 VCUs issued in the registry snapshot
the availability, quality or assignment of each individual unit
a calculation according to ACM0002
a direct CO₂ measurement at the power plant or that every kilowatt hour has the same CO₂e impact
a retirement of specific VCUs for a beneficiary
the reduction of one's own emissions, climate neutrality or a green product label
Project, standard, vintage, quantity and serial numbers
Climate neutrality of a product or company
A climate contribution should not sound greater than monitoring, unit, and allocation document it to be. Support for the project is reported separately from your own CO₂e footprint and is not offset.
07 · SOURCES AND RELEVANCE
The basis openly accessible
Project status, expenditures, decommissionings and individual units are subject to change. The current registry entry and the project, monitoring and audit documents published there remain decisive.
