WHY FEED-IN MATTERS
For the project balance, the documented feed-in is linked to a methodologically determined emission factor of the interconnected electricity system. Only this comparison yields a calculated emission reduction for a clearly defined monitoring period.
The technology generates electricity. The method answers which emissions are associated with this electricity.

The data pass for VCS1915
The current register entry specifies the project scope, methodology, crediting period and units. Deviating details regarding the stage of expansion are not combined into a single capacity figure on this page.

Why two capacity specifications appear: The Verra entry describes a project scope of 10 MW in two expansion phases. A technical project source mentions three turbines with a combined 5 MW as the expansion state connected at the end of 2017. The information apparently refers to different planning or operating stages and is therefore reported separately.
Why estimation, issuance and retirement are not the same: 32,464 t CO₂e is the annual expected value stated in the registry. Issued VCUs are based on verified monitoring periods. Active and retired units describe registry status – they do not yet imply a specific corporate allocation.
02 · WHAT THE PROJECT PROVIDES FOR
Generate, feed in and traceably record wind power
For the climate balance, it is not only the construction of plants that counts. The decisive factor is the amount of electricity generated and fed into the national grid within a specified period.
01
Harnessing wind energy near Lüderitz
The project site exploits the wind conditions on the southern Namibian Atlantic coast. Published sources describe three installed turbines.
02
feed electricity into the national grid
The electricity generated is exported to the Namibian power grid. It does not follow that specific households or businesses are supplied directly.
03
Document creation
Measurement data on the amount of electricity fed into the grid, calculation documents and independent audits form the basis for a potential issuance of VCUs.
03 · HOW A UNIT IS CREATED
AMS-I.D. Version 18 defines how grid-connected renewable electricity generation is accounted for against the baseline of the connected electricity system.
01
Set baseline
The reference scenario describes how the corresponding amount of electricity would have been provided in the connected electricity system without the project.
02
Measure electricity quantity
The electricity actually generated and fed in at the defined metering points is documented for the monitoring period.
03
Apply emission factor
The eligible amount of electricity is linked to the methodologically determined emission factor of the electricity system. Relevant project and leakage emissions are taken into account.
04
Verify and issue
Following independent auditing, VCUs with vintage and serial numbers can be issued in the registry. A subsequent retirement documents their specific use.
04 · OTHER PROJECT REFERENCES
What can be described in addition to the VCU calculation
The VCS project framework quantifies greenhouse gas emissions. Energy, infrastructure or employment-related claims require their own data and evidence; they do not automatically follow from an issued VCU.
ENERGY SYSTEM
Domestic electricity generation
The project feeds wind power into the Namibian grid. Whether and to what extent this replaces imports or specific power plants is addressed methodologically via the baseline.
INFRASTRUCTURE
First large-scale wind farm structure
The registry description refers to Ombepo as Namibia's first major wind farm. This historic infrastructure reference is not an independent VCU impact indicator.
LOCAL PARTICIPATION
Municipal equity participation
The Verra entry mentions a 5% stake held by the Lüderitz Town Council. The economic consequences of this would need to be proven separately.
EMPLOYMENT
Construction, operation and maintenance
Project sources describe employment during construction and operation. Statements regarding the number, duration, or quality of the jobs must be documented separately from the emission calculations.
FOR COMMUNICATION
A connection to renewable energy, energy supply or the Sustainable Development Goals is not a comprehensive sustainability credential. What matters is which specific statement is proven by which indicator and over what period.
05 · FOR SUPPORTING COMPANIES
Issued VCUs do not yet constitute an allocation to a company.
The registry shows 174,020 issued and 124,127 retired VCUs. Concrete support only becomes traceable through the unambiguous retirement for a beneficiary.

The profile explains the project. A company's actual climate contribution is only proven by the retirement and allocation certificate.
06 · CLASSIFICATION AND COMMUNICATION
What the support means – and what it doesn't
A voluntary climate contribution is presented separately from reductions within one's own value chain.
CAN BE DOCUMENTED
IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGNED
a registered wind energy project near Lüderitz
the direct supply of specific households, products or companies
an emission reduction calculated and verified in accordance with AMS-I.D.
a direct measurement of avoided CO₂ emissions at the wind turbine
the project scope of 10 MW described in the register and a separately documented expansion status
that planning, installed capacity and operating capacity are identical
a VCS registry entry with issued VCUs
automatically an Article 6 authorisation, a CCP label or an external rating
Wind power with zero fuel combustion during plant operation
a complete life cycle assessment including manufacturing, infrastructure and end of life
the retirement of specific VCUs for a beneficiary
a reduction of own emissions, climate neutrality, or a green product label
It is not the wind turbine that occupies the climate protection unit. Rather, it is the audited period, the issued VCU and its unique allocation.
