BASIS
A CO₂ value is not self-explanatory.
As part of EmpCo, we are making the foundations of our information-based approach publicly accessible. We do not turn CO₂ data into a climate status. We show what lies behind it.

Information instead of predicate
natureOffice documents carbon footprints as concrete, transparent information. This includes clear reference values, system boundaries, data sources, calculation rules and version statuses.
Product and Corporate Carbon Footprints, their implementation in ecozoom, and voluntary climate contributions are clearly separated from one another. Separate methodological and documentary rules apply to each area.

What our frames can achieve – and what they cannot
The frameworks describe the general technical and documentary rules of natureOffice. They are not client-specific. How these rules were applied in a specific case is shown in the respective balance sheet, the methodology profile, and, if applicable, the revalidation protocol or the Corporate Contribution Record.
The frameworks are not a certification system, a private sustainability standard, or a product seal of quality. They do not confer a climate status on any product or company.
CLASSIFICATION
It is not the symbol that makes a CO₂ value understandable.
But rather the disclosed basis.
A CO₂ value does not become comprehensible simply because it is provided with a mark, an ID or a QR code. These elements can facilitate access to information and uniquely assign a value. However, they do not yet explain what was balanced and how the result was achieved.
Traceability is achieved through the disclosed basis: balance sheet item, reference value, system boundary, period, database, calculation method, assumptions, exclusions, and version status. Our methodological frameworks describe the general rules. The respective data page shows how these rules were applied to a specific balance sheet or climate contribution.
Therefore, with our information-based approach, the label is not an award or proof of climate status. It is a guide to information that enables an independent assessment.
